To give up the CDR would be to give up the concept of struggle with popular participation, to organize the neighborhood to fulfill vital tasks even today. What would have happened to Artemisa during the covid without the CDRs, without the people capable of containing massive infections from within the quarantined sites themselves?

The foregoing was pointed out by Joan Cabo Mijares, first secretary of the Party in the provincial capital, during the X Assembly of the CDR Congress in that municipality.

Of course, he stressed, it is necessary to stop looking for cadres for the committees and, instead, look for the natural leaders of each block. Then, if necessary, we will prepare them in our schools, she said.

Various approaches addressed the need to revitalize the CDR organization. Fidel called us the most revolutionary people in Cuba, so the CDRs cannot fall in this land, warned Massiel Ercia Sánchez, who added that there are no bad communities, just a lack of action.

Likewise, Hilda Rosa Hernández told how the neighbors found out about illegalities in a workplace, confronted them and those responsible were punished. “We do it without fear, because it is in defense of the Revolution.”

Julia Durruthy Molina, a member of the National Secretariat, confirmed that there is no correspondence between the few complaints (almost none about theft and slaughter of cattle, warehouses or factory houses) and the current situation in the community. “We are obliged to be more vigilant and more preventive, so that they do not rob us in the houses or in the warehouses for not being on guard.”

He also spoke of the urgency of caring for young people, talking to them and asking them how they want their CDR to be, not the way it was 60 years ago.

During the assembly, the new municipal leadership was elected, and Miladys Lemus Martínez was ratified as head of it. The delegates to the Provincial Assembly (on Saturday the 12th) and the candidates for delegates to the final session of the X Congress were also elected.

The meeting was chaired by Alexander Valdés Valdés, a member of the Provincial Bureau of the Party.
