Finally, Ceará’s streak as a visitor in Series B of the Brazilian Championship has come to an end. Away from home, at the Jorge Ismael de Biasi stadium, in Novo Horizonte (SP), the northeastern team defeated Novorizontino 3-0, this Friday, in the fourth round. It was also Ceará’s first victory in the competition.
The last victory away from home had taken place more than 11 months ago, on June 6, 2023. On that occasion, they beat Atlético-GO 3-0, in Goiânia (GO). With the three points, Ceará avoided the crisis that had been taking place at the club. Now he has five points and appears in ninth place. It was the second defeat for Novorizontino, who remained stuck with six points, in seventh place.
Even away from home, Ceará was the one who started attacking. Knowing how to neutralize Novorizontino’s ground plays, the northeastern team had the better of the aerial game and opened the scoring early, after 10 minutes. Guilherme Castilho took the free kick in the area, the ball remained live in the area and it was left for Recalde to send it into the net.
Behind the marker, the home team tried to climb the lines, but remained stuck in the opponent’s marking. Not even the long ball was working. When he found space to finish, Paulo Vitor missed the target twice. In the final stretch, under pressure, Paulo Vitor headed the ball and Richard made a great save.
Novorizontino came back from the break ready to seek a draw. Rodolfo received it quickly, but shot over the goalkeeper. Afterwards, Renato headed the ball against the post. Ceará was not intimidated by the initial pressure. On the counterattack, Matheus Bahia crossed low and Barceló, with style, completed it into the net, expanding the score, at 12.
The goal cooled the home team’s reaction. Not even the substitutions changed the team’s outlook in the match, which continued without creativity to escape marking. In turn, Ceará remained calm on the field, until the 36th minute, when Lourenço killed the counterattack and ended up being sent off. With one more, Novorizontino went up and Lucca hit the crossbar. However, in a new counterattack, Lucas Mugni received it from Pulga and sealed the victory, at 41.
In the next round, Novorizontino visits Vila Nova, on Tuesday, at 7 pm, in Goiânia (GO). Ceará plays on Wednesday, at 9:30 pm, against Amazonas, at Castelão.
