President Sebastián Piñera Foundation Established to Perpetuate His Legacy
On August 12, 2024, Cecilia Morel, former first lady of Chile, and her daughter Magdalena Piñera announced the creation of the President Sebastián Piñera Foundation. This foundation aims to perpetuate the vision and commitment of former president Sebastián Piñera to a better and fairer Chile for all.
The foundation was established following a meeting with beneficiaries of some of the public policies implemented during Piñera’s presidency. Guests included social leaders, including Claudia González and Cristal Marisol Ortega, as well as Luis Urzúa, the shift manager of the 33 San José miners.
Morel emphasized that the foundation will focus on promoting projects that support the well-being of the population, specifically highlighting policies implemented during Piñera’s two mandates. These include:
The fight against the pandemic
Reconstruction efforts following earthquakes
The legalization of same-sex marriage
The improvement of Bicentennial High Schools
The foundation aims to keep alive the spirit of Piñera’s presidency and the positive impact it had on the lives of millions of Chileans.
