CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Cedar Rapids man is facing multiple charges after leading Linn County Deputies on a high-speed chase Saturday evening.

The incident began when a deputy attempted to pull over 24-year-old Michael Bowman for exceeding the speed limit, driving at 80mph in a 65mph zone on Hwy 100 eastbound, near Ellis Rd, shortly after 8pm on Saturday. However, instead of complying, Bowman accelerated and continued eastbound, reaching extraordinary speeds of up to 125mph.

Officials reported that during the chase, Bowman exited on Covington Rd, quickly negating the westward turn, and then entered Hwy 30 going eastbound before eventually entering southwest Cedar Rapids. The dangerous pursuit caused alarm among law enforcement and other motorists as they witnessed Bowman’s reckless driving.

The chase eventually came to an end when Bowman abruptly pulled into the parking lot behind the GNC located at 2320 Edgewood Rd SW. Authorities promptly apprehended him there without further incident.

Following his apprehension, Bowman was immediately transported to the Linn County Jail. Authorities discovered that he had an outstanding warrant along with the charges of Attempting to Elude and multiple traffic offenses.

Local law enforcement commended the deputies involved in the pursuit for their quick response and effective handling of the situation, which ultimately led to the arrest of Bowman without injuries to anyone involved.

Law enforcement officials urge drivers to obey traffic laws for their own safety and the well-being of others on the road. Incidents like this high-speed chase serve as a reminder of the potential consequences that come with disregarding the law.

As of now, Michael Bowman remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings. Additional information regarding the outstanding warrant or his current charges has not been released.
