CEDRO Award | Antonio Muñoz Molina, CEDRO 2023 Award for his “constant defense” of intellectual property

The authors and editors of Cedro’s board of directors have agreed to award al writer Antonio Muñoz Molina with the Cedro 2023 Award for “his defense of copyright and the work of the creator and for his constant militancy in favor of a sustainable culture”.

“In this seventh edition of the Cedro Award, we wanted to highlight that for Antonio Muñoz Molina the defense of intellectual property and diverse culture have been constants in his life. He has not only claimed it in his journalistic columns, but also attended his the Congress of Deputies to defend the need to adequately protect culture and copyright”, explained Daniel Fernández, president of CEDRO.

Muñoz Molina was born in Úbeda (Jaén) in 1956. He has collected his articles in volumes such as ‘El Robinson urbano’ (1984) or ‘La vida adelante’ (2002). His narrative work includes ‘Beatus Ille’ (1986), ‘Winter in Lisbon’ (1987), ‘Beltenebros’ (1989), ‘The Polish Rider’ (1991), ‘The Mysteries of Madrid’ (1992), ‘The Owner of the Secret’ (1994), ‘Ardor Guerrero’ (1995), ‘Full Moon ‘ (1997), ‘Carlota Fainberg’ (2000), ‘In the absence of Blanca’ (2001), ‘Manhattan Windows’ (2004), ‘The wind from the Moon’ (2006), ‘Sefarad’ (2001), ‘The night of the times’ (2009), ‘Like the shadow that leaves’ (2014), ‘A solitary walk among the people’ (2018), ‘Your steps on the stairs’ (2019), ‘The fear of the children’ (2020), ‘Volver a donde’ (2021), the volume of stories ‘Nothing special’ (2011) and the essay ‘Everything that was solid’ (2013).

He has received, among others, the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature, the Planeta Prize, the Jerusalem Prize, the Prix Médicis Étranger and was a finalist for the Man Booker International Prize with his novel ‘Como la sombra que se va’ in 2018. Since 1995 he has been a member of the Royal Spanish Academy. He lives between Madrid and Lisbon.

The Cedro Award recognizes annually, since 2017, in a symbolic way, the trajectory of a person or institution that stands out for defending culture in general and copyright in particular.
