EVERY year, on November 1, Indonesia commemorates Indonesian Innovation Day (HII), a moment that glorifies creativity and innovation in an effort to advance the nation. What is the real purpose of commemorating Indonesian Innovation Day? Let’s examine it briefly!

History and Mission of Indonesian Innovation Day

The commemoration of Indonesian Innovation Day was first initiated by Handi Irawan D, chairman of the Tera Foundation, who also awarded the Business Record Award. He expressed his hope that Indonesian Innovation Day would be an encouragement for individuals and brand owners to continue creating innovation.

According to Handi, the success of individuals or companies cannot be separated from innovation, especially amidst changing times and technology. Life without innovation can result in stagnation and even decline.

President Joko Widodo also provided views regarding Indonesian Innovation Day, underlining that innovation is not solely the responsibility of young people or government institutions. Such significant changes, especially in the conditions of multinational companies, show how important innovation is in responding to changing times.

Supporting Creativity and Innovation

In commemoration of Indonesian Innovation Day, there are several steps we can take to support the creation of innovation, especially in the workplace or business world. Three of them are:

Appreciation to employees not only shows gratitude, but can also motivate them to produce innovation.

2. Hold an Innovation Competition

Through competition, employees are encouraged to compete in presenting innovative ideas. This motivates them to create and innovate.

3. Innovation Themed Event

Holding exhibitions or discussions related to innovation can be an interesting way to open your horizons and encourage the emergence of new ideas.

Innovation in Indonesian History

Indonesia’s history of innovation is not short. Durenas, the Department of National Research Affairs which was founded in the era of President Soekarno under the leadership of Sujono Juned Pusponegoro, became the foundation for the progress of national research. In the next era, Sumitro Joyohadikusumo as Minister of State for Research collaborated with BJ Habibie in building the domestic aircraft industry.
