Libreville, July 6, 2024 (AGP) – Started three days earlier with training for cooperatives, the celebration of the International Day of Cooperatives (IDC) 2024 reached its peak this Saturday, March 6 in Libreville, with the protocol phase and the opening of exhibitions and sales. The event, organized by the National Platform of Cooperatives, Farmers, Fisheries, Livestock and Sustainable Development (CEAPEDD), benefited from the involvement of the First Lady of Gabon, Zita Oligui Nguéma, who was represented by her chief of staff, Manelle Siami.
The Georges-Rawiri House, the setting for the events, welcomed the multitude of cooperative members of this associative platform.
In her circumstantial speech, the president of the Platform, Amélie Garcia Medza Mba, highlighted the daily challenges faced by the country’s 3,000 cooperatives. This is despite the fact that a large number of them contribute to Gabon’s quest for food self-sufficiency, knowing that the country has undeniable assets to achieve this objective.
Also, Mrs. Medza Mba called for the creation of a budget line in the Finance Law, for the benefit of National Platforms of Agricultural Cooperatives.
She also advocated for the subsidization of first-category microfinance, with a view to facilitating microcredits to cooperatives and the realization of their projects.
Pending the realization of these grievances, the office of the First Lady has committed to standing alongside the CEAPEDD in its mission to increase agricultural production on the national territory, with a view to achieving food security.
« You will no longer be alone…It is our duty and our responsibility to support cooperatives in a participatory spirit,” promised the First Lady of Gabon through her chief of staff.
The protocol phase was followed by a visit to the exhibition stands, rich in local and artisanal products.
These exhibitions will continue until July 13 at the esplanade of the Maison Georges Rawiri.
