“For most workers, 23 July is the mandatory weekly day of rest, therefore, if they do not work on that day, the employee will only receive their ordinary remuneration; that is, no additional remuneration will be paid, as is the case on 1 May, when it coincides with the mandatory weekly day of rest.” The manager of the CCL Legal Centre said, Alvaro Galvez.
However, if the employee has to work on 23 July, which is a mandatory rest day, and an alternative rest day has not been agreed, he must be remunerated as follows: Remuneration equal to one day for leave; and remuneration with 100% surcharge for work performed.
Who is Jose Abelardo Quiñones Gonzalez?
José Abelardo Quiñones Gonzales was a prominent Peruvian military aviator. He was born in Chiclayo, Peru, on April 22, 1914, and died tragically on July 23, 1941. Quiñones Gonzales is known for his bravery and heroic actions during the Peru-Ecuador War of 1941. During an aerial confrontation, his plane was severely damaged by enemy fire, but despite this, he refused to abandon his position and continued to fight. During the battle, he realized that his plane had no chance of winning, and demonstrating bravery and sacrifice, he decided to crash his plane into the enemy artillery: a “nest” of machine guns firing from the ground.
This heroic act made him a symbol of courage and patriotism in Peru. In his honor, the Peruvian Air Force named its main airport “Major General José Abelardo Quiñones Gonzales Air Base”.
