In the small square of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) in the north of Quito, more than 50 producers have gathered to celebrate Inti Raymi and promote their fresh and processed products at the Flavors and Knowledge of Peasant Family Agriculture Fair.

Organized by the MAG Undersecretary of Family Farming Agriculture, this fair has brought together farmers from various provinces such as Pichincha, Imbabura, Napo, and other regions of the country. The event not only seeks the direct marketing of fruits, vegetables and other foods, but also the revaluation of ancestral knowledge and cultural traditions.

The Vice Minister of Rural Development, Marco Oviedo, highlighted the fundamental role of these producers in the construction of a sustainable and healthy agri-food system in Ecuador. “You are key actors in the entire process, from production to consumption of food,” Oviedo mentioned during the inauguration.

In addition to being a platform for the peasant family economy, the fair has also been a space to commemorate the Inti Raymi, the Festival of the Sun, a special celebration for the indigenous communities of the Ecuadorian mountains. This ancestral event is a time to thank Pacha Mama and the sun for the fertility of the lands that support daily nutrition.

The AFC Flavors and Knowledge Fair has been possible thanks to the collaboration with the Institute of Popular and Solidarity Economy (IEPS), the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES), Quito Comercio, the MAG and other actors of International Cooperation , who have worked together to promote inclusive and sustainable development in the country’s agricultural sector.
