This meeting, which comes after the High Royal Decision establishing the Amazigh New Year as an official paid national holiday, took place in the presence of many associative and civil society actors, as well as Moroccan executives and skills from different regions of the Netherlands and Europe.
In a speech on this occasion, the Ambassador of the Kingdom to the Netherlands, Mohamed Basri, stressed that the celebration of the Amazigh New Year 2974 constitutes a consecration of the richness and cultural diversity of Morocco, and reflects the particular interest granted by HM King Mohammed VI to the Amazigh culture as an essential component of Moroccan identity.
Morocco has been, throughout its history, a land of meeting and mixing of civilizations, cultures and languages, he noted, noting that the Kingdom has nevertheless remained impervious to any attempt aimed at undermining the unity of its components and its identity.
The diplomat also noted that the process of building the rule of law in Morocco “is not based solely on the establishment of infrastructure and investment in people, but also relies on the application and defense of the principle of equality between all components of the people and of the Moroccan cultural identity.”
For her part, the Consul General of Morocco in Utrecht, Bouthaina El Kerdoudi El Koulali, emphasized the strategic and historical nature of the officialization of the Amazigh New Year as a national holiday as well as the strong symbolism of this royal decision, which reflects the high concern with which HM the King surrounds Amazighness as one of the main pillars of Moroccan identity, rich in the diversity of its tributaries, and a national heritage shared by all Moroccans without exception.
The official celebration of the Amazigh New Year at the institutional level is, moreover, an opportunity to raise awareness of the Amazigh civilization, its ancestral history and its rich and diverse cultural heritage, in particular its customs and traditions, festive traditions and musical and literary arts, she added.
This event also helps to strengthen communication and mutual understanding between all components of Moroccan society, which greatly contributes to consolidating the bonds of belonging to Morocco and the pride of Moroccans in their culture, their history and their plural civilization, said Ms. El Kerdoudi.
This meeting was marked by a tribute to several Amazigh personalities from the first generation of Moroccan emigration to the Netherlands, as well as musical performances and an exhibition of Amazigh clothing and craft products.
