The official proclamation of this day in the Peruvian Congress was adopted at the initiative of the Peru/Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, chaired by Mr. Ernesto Bustamante, during its second meeting on April 25, recalls the same source.
On this occasion, the Moroccan ambassador to Peru, Mr. Amin Chaoudri, thanked all the components of the Peruvian Congress, and more particularly the Peru/Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group at the origin of this day, which commemorates the anniversary of the historic visit of HM King Mohammed VI in 2004 to Peru, the first of its kind made by an Arab and African head of state to this South American country.
The Moroccan ambassador did not fail to emphasize that the celebration of this day is all the more important as it comes after “the resumption of our bilateral relations in September of this year, following Peru’s decision to suspend its relations with the ghostly “rasd”, thus marking not only the end of an unfortunate stage, but also the beginning of a promising era of collaboration and renewed understanding.”
“It symbolizes a reaffirmed commitment to common goals and a fervent desire to explore new avenues of cooperation and mutual development, in the interest of both countries and both peoples,” continued the Moroccan diplomat, listing the various actions undertaken at the parliamentary level in favor of Morocco, including the creation of the “Support Group for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative”, under the chairmanship of MP Ernesto Bustamante.
For his part, the statement added, Mr. Bustamante took advantage of this opportunity to stress “the need for the Republic of Peru to proceed, like other important countries from various continents, to the opening of a consulate in one of the two Moroccan cities in the South, in Laayoune or Dakhla”, recalling the strategic megaproject of the port of Dakhla under construction on the Atlantic coast of Morocco.
In the same vein, Mr. Bustamante insisted on Peru’s interest in benefiting from the remarkable economic growth of Morocco, “a key country” in Africa, through major economic partnerships, including a possible strategic agreement aimed at connecting the port of Chancay, located south of the Peruvian capital, and that of Dakhla Atlantique in Morocco.
The celebration of the “Parliamentary Day of the Kingdom of Morocco” was attended by members of the Peruvian Congress, senior officials representing the different institutions of the Peruvian State and prominent figures from Peruvian civil society.
This celebration testifies to the excellent relations of cooperation between the parliaments of Morocco and Peru and the firm will, repeatedly demonstrated by the members of the two legislative institutions, to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation in terms of exchange of information and experiences, dialogue and consultation on subjects of common interest, concludes the press release from the Moroccan embassy.
