The ceremonies began with the laying of wreaths on a mass grave, in memory of the missing killed during the 1993 crisis. This mass grave is located very close to the Kinyinya parish.
After the laying of wreaths by several personalities including the Bishop of the diocese of Ruyigi Monseigneur Blaise Nzeyimana, the administrator of the Kinyinya commune Fulgence Kwizera, members of the CVR and members of the families of the victims, the Christians who had come of all the parishes of the diocese of Ruyigi carried out a march for peace.
The day dedicated to Justice and Peace was also marked by a session asking for forgiveness and reconciliation between the perpetrators and victims of crimes committed during the crises experienced by Burundi. This session took place on the sidelines of a Eucharistic Mass read by the Bishop of the Ruyigi Diocese.
In his homily, Monsignor Blaise Nzeyimana explained that Truth and reconciliation are pillars of peace and justice in the country. He urged Christians to strengthen truth and reconciliation, observe God’s commandments and repent of sin.
