The Office of Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations published the schedule of the Holy Father’s ceremonies for July and August.

These months coincide, in the Vatican, with the traditional summer break. On June 27, the Holy See Press Office confirmed that the General, Private, and Special Audiences of Pope Francis are suspended from July 1 to Wednesday, August 9.

During this usual period of rest, the Holy Father will only preside over the Angelus on Sundays from the window of the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace.

However, the Pontiff will preside over certain celebrations whose details were released on Tuesday, July 4.

On July 23, the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Holy Father will celebrate Holy Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica at 10:00 a.m. (Rome time) at the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly.

“His mercy extends from generation to generation” is the theme chosen by the Pope for this III Day dedicated to the elderly, which also expresses the link with the World Youth Day (WYD) that will take place in Lisbon (Portugal).

Later, from August 2 to 6, Pope Francis will travel to Portugal and celebrate Holy Mass on Sunday, August 6, in Tejo Park.

The day before, on Saturday, August 5, the Pope will fly by helicopter from the Figo Maduro Air Base to the Fatima stadium. There he will pray the Rosary with the young sick people in the Chapel of the Apparitions of the Marian Shrine.

Finally, from August 31 to September 4, Pope Francis will travel to Mongolia, an Asian country that borders Russia and China.

The Holy Father will become the first Pope to visit this Asian country where more than 3 million inhabitants live, of whom only 1,300 are Catholics.
