Celine Dion’s sister gives update on singer’s struggles with Stiff Person Syndrome

Celine Dion’s older sister Claudette has provided an update on the singer’s ongoing battle with stiff person syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder that causes rigidity and muscle spasms.

Speaking to Canada’s 7 days, Claudette Dion revealed that Celine is working hard but does not have control over her muscles due to the debilitating condition. This has affected the singer’s ability to perform and sing, ultimately leading to the cancellation of her world tour dates.

Last December, Celine Dion announced that she had been diagnosed with SPS and was forced to cancel her upcoming tour. In May, she had to pull the remaining dates of her world tour, stating that she was “working really hard to build back my strength.”

In a recent interview, Claudette Dion expressed uncertainty about Celine’s return to full-scale touring, saying, “It’s true that in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to return to the stage. In what capacity? I don’t know.”

Explaining the rarity of the condition, Claudette mentioned that there has been limited research into a cure for SPS. She also highlighted the outpouring of support and prayers that Celine has received from fans and well-wishers.

Stiff person syndrome is an autoimmune and neurological disorder that affects muscle control and can be triggered by environmental stimuli or emotional stress. Despite the challenges, Celine and her family remain hopeful as they continue to navigate the impact of this rare condition.
