If you want to escape stress on vacation, you should use your smartphone as little as possible, says psychologist Martin Korte. It is intensively involved in information processing. The consultant also makes recommendations for the duration of the vacation.

DBraunschweig psychologist Martin Korte recommends always putting your smartphone away during vacation. “Using a cell phone can completely destroy the relaxing effect of a vacation,” he told the Evangelical Press Center. Social media, like work appointments, can cause stress. On the other hand, if you think about how you use it when you are on vacation and take some time off, it will be easier for you to relax.

“If you only see your vacation through your smartphone, you remember little about the trip,” says a professor from the Technical University of Braunschweig. Without a mobile device, the temptation to read emails and other messages from work is reduced. “Otherwise this leads to unnecessary pressure and stress that you really want to escape.”

According to Korte, if you want to recover properly, you should plan at least ten days in a row for your vacation. The trip doesn’t affect recovery, but many people find it easier to get away from everyday life when they travel.

“My recommendation would therefore be to travel whenever possible,” he said. “It’s easy to fight stress in a new place and experience new things.” Travel keeps the brain young.

If you want to incorporate a break into your daily life, you should look at your habits that can’t be easily changed with a two-week break, Korte said. “So it’s important to think about what I can save from the holiday and set new habits to get rid of old habits and maybe bad habits.”

During the holidays, many things that need to be done are often left behind, at work and at home. “To-do lists help here to organize work in chunks and not forget anything,” the researcher explained.

Individual recovery does not only serve the individual. He explained: “As individuals and as a society, we always need time and relaxation to prepare ourselves for the tough debates of the future. Without enough sleep or rest, people become more irritable and ineffective in their interactions with each other. “When we are well rested, we take care of ourselves better.”
