Cellular operators will be obliged to build 4G networks in villages

by time news

The State Commission on Radio Frequencies (SCRF) in August plans to extend the permission to use the frequencies of 700 MHz, 800 MHz and 2.5-2.7 GHz for fourth-generation cellular networks (LTE) for another 10 years. This follows from the materials of the commission, which Vedomosti got acquainted with (a source in a large communications company is familiar with this draft decision of the SCRF). The original permit was issued to operators in 2011 and will expire on September 8 this year.

To obtain an extension, operators will have to fulfill a number of conditions, according to the materials of the State Committee for Radio Frequencies. From 2023, they will have to build LTE networks only on domestic equipment included in the unified register of Russian electronic products. The software used, for example, by base stations, must be entered in the register of domestic software.
