Celta de Vigo and Olympique de Lyon have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of the Peruvian international Renato Tapia to the French club, sources close to the negotiation informed EFE.

The South American footballer, who has a year left on his contract with the Galician entity, arrived at Balaídos in the summer of 2020 as a personal bet of the then sports director Felipe Miñambres, who had been following the player in Dutch football for several years.

Renato Tapia landed in Vigo at zero cost after ending his contract with Feyenoord and his spectacular performance in his first campaign at Celta led to numerous clubs submitting offers for him, all of which were rejected by the entity chaired by Carlos Mouriño.

That season, Renato Tapia was the third most used footballer at Celta de Vigo with 2,710 minutes (32 games), only surpassed by Iago Aspas (2,870 minutes) and Denis Suárez (2,863).

However, without a break in the summer due to the Copa América, the role of the midfielder diminished in the sky-blue team, also affected by the irruption of the young Fran Beltrán.

The 2021-2022 season played 29 games (1,402 minutes), one more than in the latter despite the fact that in the last stretch of the championship he was the wild card for Carlos Carvalhal to replace the pair of starting central defenders.
