(Reuters) – Cemig (BVMF:) reported this Friday that its subsidiary Cemig Geração e Transmissão (Cemig GT) expressed interest in extending the concessions for the Emborcação and Nova Ponte hydroelectric plants, according to a relevant fact to the market.
Both Emborcação and Nova Ponte plants, of which Cemig GT holds the concessions, have an installed capacity of 1,192 MW and 510 MW, respectively, according to the company. The end of the concession period is scheduled for, in order, May 26, 2027 and August 12, 2027.
The expression of interest, said Cemig GT, seeks to guarantee the extension of the contract for up to 30 years, at the discretion of the granting authority.
According to the energy company, any effective decision will depend on the disclosure, by the MME, of the conditions for the extension, which will be subject to deliberation by the company’s governance bodies and shareholders.
“The company emphasizes, finally, that this expression of interest does not suspend the ongoing analysis of legal alternatives for the extension of expiring concessions,” he added.
