/ The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Friday that it had targeted missiles in Houthi areas in Yemen that were being prepared to launch against ships in the Red Sea, noting that its measures protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer.

“On February 15, an anti-ship ballistic missile was launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen into the Gulf of Aden, and was heading towards the MV Lycavitos, a Barbados-flagged, UK-owned and operated cargo carrier. The ship reported no injuries but very minor damage from the attack and the ship continued its journey,” the command said in a statement seen by Agency.

“CENTCOM forces successfully conducted two self-defense strikes against three mobile anti-ship cruise missiles (ASCM) in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen that were prepared to launch against shipping in the Red Sea,” she continued.

She noted that “these measures will protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer for US, naval and commercial vessels.”

The United States is carrying out a surveillance mission in the Red Sea against Houthi attacks that have escalated against ships they see as serving Israel, while the Houthis have been launching missiles and drones that are trying to target Israel as well in support of Gaza since the attacks of October 7, 2023 until now.
