Khalifa Haftar held a meeting at his forces’ headquarters in Rajma with the Acting Head of the United Nations Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury.
According to the Haftar Forces Media Office, the meeting discussed the latest political developments and events on the Libyan scene, as well as the crisis of the Central Bank of Libya and its economic, security and political repercussions.
Haftar stressed that the venerable Central Bank of Libya institution would not be harmed, pointing out the need to respect the legitimate and constitutional bodies authorized to consider sovereign positions, including the position of Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, in accordance with the outcomes of the political agreement sponsored by the United Nations Mission in Libya. He expressed his rejection of the illegal measures taken by political parties that lack legitimacy and do not have any powers in particular, holding them fully responsible for the crises suffered by the Libyan people due to those decisions, as he described them.
For her part, Khoury stressed the commitment of the United Nations Mission to support efforts to reach solutions that preserve the status of the Central Bank of Libya and its international credit standing. She also stressed the need for the House of Representatives and the State Council to agree on the position of the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, noting that the Mission will exert its efforts to achieve this consensus.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue holding more meetings and consultations during the coming period.
