Central Bank denies stopping dealing with foreign banks

The Central Bank of Libya confirmed that the news circulating about foreign banks stopping dealing with it is misleading and false, and its aim is to harm the country’s economy.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the Central Bank of Libya denied the news circulating recently on some social media platforms about foreign banks stopping dealing with the bank, stressing that this news is misleading and baseless, and aims to harm the country’s economy.

The bank confirmed the continuation of close communication with all correspondent banks accredited to it abroad, and that the mutual procedures between them are proceeding normally, and in accordance with the agreed upon work.

The bank reiterated that all its departments are working normally, and have begun implementing their plan to restore work after it was suspended by the previous administration. They succeeded in activating and securing all electronic systems in the bank after they were disabled, and paid the salaries for the month of August to all state sectors throughout Libya, after the previous administration refused to pay them. They also activated the documentary credit system and prepared the personal items system for work.

The bank stressed that it will intensify its efforts during the coming week to restore the value of the Libyan dinar after it was weakened by the previous administration through illegal measures.

He explained that his relationship with foreign banks and institutions is an institutional relationship governed by official agreements and international norms that are not affected at all by individuals, reassuring everyone that the bank’s employees work day and night with complete professionalism to protect the banking sector away from political conflicts.

The bank called for verifying information from its official sources, and paying attention to fake news that aims to speculate on the value of the Libyan dinar, and to drag the livelihood of Libyans into the fire of political conflict and suspicious agendas.
