The commander of the central district of the police, Sgt Avi Beaton Today (Thursday) he criticized the protests against the reform in an interview with GLC. “The protests are paralyzing thousands of policemen at the national level. They were supposed to deal with crime in Arab society and in the end they are not in the criminal sphere.”

After the interview, the police clarified his words and wrote that they were taken out of context. However, they added: “Faced with the multiplicity of tasks and the challenges of terrorism, crime and public order – the protest ‘fascinates’ thousands of police officers to secure protests in hundreds of centers every weekend. This is a fact and not a position.” Also, it was clarified that nothing was claimed against the protest.

Bitton stated in an interview that he considers himself a candidate for the post of commissioner. “I consider myself a mature and worthy candidate to lead the organization in the coming years,” he said. “It is a very significant challenge for me and I always strive for the top.”

Kaplan forcefully responded to the affair: “Crime is rampant, Israel is bleeding and the district commander is inciting against the protest, running away from responsibility, and behaving as if he is trying to improve positions in the race for commissioners. Blaming the protest for the resounding failure in dealing with crime and violence is a transparent attempt to flatter the failed minister. We call on the district commander to serve as an example, to show responsibility and retract the inciting statement.”
