Staff at the Universidad Central reported that they have not received their salaries since May 2024, affecting 32 teachers from the Faculty of Arts. On Thursday, July 18, they protested in front of the Higher Education Council (CES), arguing that their labor rights have been violated by the lack of payment.

The protesters pointed to two reasons for the delay in payments: the CES decision that since March 2024 urged the Central University to repeat the elections to choose a rector and the delay in internal administrative processes. Although the contracts were ready in May, they were not signed until June 13 due to a CES resolution. The payments were ready for approval on July 10, but the protection action ended on July 8, leaving teachers without pay for another month.

On July 15, the teachers filed a human and labor rights alert with a judge. On July 16, they demonstrated in front of the Northern Judicial Complex, demanding that their rights be protected.
