The Center for Action on Corporate Social Responsibility in Guatemala (CentraRSE) organized an event with representatives of political parties and business leaders to share a roadmap to include sustainability actions on the public agenda. During the event, the document “Sustainability for Competitiveness” was shared, which was presented by representatives of CentraRSE and establishes the creation of a National Sustainability Council, which would design strategies to promote business sustainability and the insertion of sustainability principles. in public management.

Jorge Toruño, president of the CentraRSE Board of Directors, stated that sustainability is an element that directly contributes to the competitiveness of companies and that, with a serious strategy of promotion and integration into public management, it can become a differentiator for the country to help increase competitiveness. According to the document presented, this Council would create a national sustainable development strategy that includes specific actions such as a national sustainability education plan, spaces for dialogue between the public and private sectors to align strategic investment efforts, and promote alliances that allow closing gaps. on fundamental issues that affect the sustainability of companies and the country, such as malnutrition, health, infrastructure and governance, among others.

For the preparation of this document, an internal consultation process was carried out that took into account the priorities of all CentraRSE partners, who together have a presence in the 22 departments of the country. According to Juan Pablo Morataya, executive director of CentraRSE, the aim is to provide a starting point for the search for collaboration spaces focused on promoting sustainability and that can provoke reflections within the parties so that they can integrate these fundamental principles in their schedules.

During the event there was also a high-level panel, moderated by Engineer Maria del Carmen Aceña, where representatives of CentraRSE and the Libertad y Desarrollo Foundation participated, who highlighted the importance of having instances that bring together different sectors and that can promote best practices, as well as have indicators and measurement tools, together with public and private cooperation to ensure issues of transparency, continuity and accountability. Enrique Crespo, Director of the Board of Directors of CentraRSE, highlighted that sustainability can become a transformer and a strategic differentiator for the entire country, which encompasses and involves public management and private management, guided by values ​​and principles that promote a exchange of knowledge and good practices aimed at creating strategic alliances and collective actions that accelerate transformation.
