The strike movement launched by the employees of the TotalEnergies refineries more than ten days ago is still spreading. After the CGT centers of the RATP and the SNCF, the movement extended to the public service at the end of the afternoon. Before finally spreading oil and changing into a vast interprofessional strike movement on Tuesday, October 18, which was joined by FO, Solidaires and FSU.

This day was initially chosen by the CGT union to organize a day of national strike to demand wage increases and protest against requisitions in the energy sector.

In transport, the call of the CGT-RATP raises fears of a disruption of traffic in the metros, buses, trains and trams. The demands are the same as at the SNCF: they relate to “wage increases, the question of pensions and the defense of the right to strike called into question by the requisitions in the refineries”, according to Vincent Gautheron, secretary of the Union CGT-RATP union, who spoke on France Bleu radio.

Invitation to negotiate

The TotalEnergies group, pressed by the government to unblock the ongoing social conflict in the French oil sector, on Thursday invited all the trade unions to wage negotiations without delay, from 8:00 p.m.

The strike continues in several depots and refineries in France, where the fear of a shortage of gasoline causes long queues of motorists. The government ordered a new requisition of personnel on Thursday, this time at the TotalEnergies depot in Dunkirk (North). On the other hand, the walkouts are over on the Esso site in Fos-sur-Mer (Bouches-du-Rhône).
