“Demonstrate that the fight pays. » This is the obsession of Sophie Binet, the new general secretary of the CGT. Since she took over from Philippe Martinez at the end of March, the trade unionist has increased her trips to employees mobilized for their salaries or the survival of their company.

We remember Vertbaudet, where the standoff led to significant increases. Since then, there have been many others and this Thursday, for her back-to-school conference, the former principal education advisor placed a lot of emphasis on the industrial question: Valdunes, “where the lines are starting to move”; Clestra, on strike for three months, on which she “sounds the alarm”; Condat, where the inter-union movement begins to “bear fruit”; Chapelle Darblay, on which Philippe Martinez had bet everything and which finds itself in difficulty again.

A “democratic alert”

“The cocoricos [de l’exécutif] in terms of industry do not correspond at all to what is happening on the ground, where companies continue to close and be in difficulty”, criticized the leader of the CGT, emphasizing that “the government’s desire to have a real industrial policy is measured by the responses to these concrete issues.”

These are “so many signals for all the other struggles,” explained the trade unionist.

“To block the National Rally, obviously the discourse on values, the social imposture of the National Rally is necessary and we are going to amplify it. But the best way […] it is to open collective perspectives and achieve concrete progress,” insisted Sophie Binet, who launched a “democratic alert” and called for “making the demand for a response to the needs of working-class neighborhoods heard.”

“A union action plan for the environment”

“In the current uncertain, dangerous context, we believe that union unity is a beacon in the storm, and this conviction is shared by the eight union organizations,” she underlined. “That’s why it’s going to last. » For her, it is this joint work which notably forced the Head of State to launch a social conference the week of October 16, three days after a joint mobilization. With other unions, “what brings us together is more important than what divides us,” she assured, referring to the negotiations on supplementary pensions and unemployment insurance.

The trade unionist also announced the construction of a “union action plan for the environment”. “All the unions [de la centrale] are called upon to think about what should be done,” announced Sophie Binet, highlighting the project that the CGT of Renault will present in October in Bordeaux in her presence: that of an “electric vehicle produced in economic France” at the price “at this stage” at 10,000 euros, which “obviously requires another cost of capital”.

“Refresher”

The construction site is vast. Sophie Binet spoke of nothing less than the need for a “strategy for upgrading all [l’] organization on what environmental issues are in their entirety”, not only greenhouse gases, but also “biodiversity and natural resources”. For this, representatives of the IPCC will be invited to participate in a confederal executive commission of the CGT, its extended management. “The goal is for it to spread across all of our organizations. »
