Chabad House in “Russian Silicon Valley” Celebrates Introduction of New Torah Book
Located in the “Skolkova” innovation center, often referred to as the “Russian Silicon Valley,” a Chabad house has been making strides in promoting and developing the Jewish community in the area. Managed by Rabbi David Barda, the Chabad house has been a hub for Jewish life, offering services such as an active synagogue with minyans and Torah and Hasidic lessons, as well as a Sunday school and activities for Jewish youth in the vicinity of the Moscow Ring Road.
Recently, the community felt the need to purchase their own Torah book, and with the support of its members, the community mobilized to make it a reality. This week, the community celebrated the completion of the writing of the letters and the introduction of the new Torah book into the synagogue hall, dedicated for the benefit of all the members and families of the community.
The event was graced by the participation of the chief rabbi of Russia, Berl Lazar, who had the honor of writing the last letters in the elegant Torah book. He also spoke on Torah and Hasidism, encouraging the community to increase participation in prayers, Torah lessons, and the various activities for all age groups that the Barda family has been maintaining with dedication and investment.
Following the completion of the ceremony, the crowd gathered for a Hasidic meeting and a mitzvah meal, during which the participants committed to enlarging and expanding the place, with the goal of making it a Jewish address for all the Jews in the area. This aligns with the broader mission of the forty Chabad houses scattered throughout the Russian capital.
The introduction of the new Torah book marks a significant milestone for the growing Jewish community in the “Russian Silicon Valley,” as it continues to thrive under the leadership of Rabbi David Barda and the support of its dedicated members.
