There will be no continuation for the chairman of the Supervisory Board in Stockholm next year. Recurring criticism of his actions towards the parties and the Prison Service puts an end to a reassignment.

The various supervisory boards make decisions on persons who have been sentenced to non-custodial sentences. The committees consist of a number of members and have a chairman and a deputy chairman.

The chairman of the board must be or have been a judge, while the other members are nominated by the political parties.

For a number of years now, a former judge has held the position of chairman of Stockholm’s supervisory board.

When in 2019 he showed interest in being reappointed for another four years as chairman, it emerged that the Probation Service had certain views on his chairmanship. However, he was appointed for another term of office which is now coming to an end.

He has stated to the Judicial Committee that he is interested in remaining in office for another term – until the end of December 2027 – and this time too the Probation Service has expressed views on how he has carried out his duties.

From documents that Dagens Juridik has seen, it appears that the probation service experiences “serious challenges in his actions as chairman both in terms of conducting meetings, in conversations with clients and in collaboration with the probation staff”. According to probation, the chairman did not hold any meetings during the autumn of last year.

This time, the Judges Board therefore states that the ex-judge is not suitable to be reappointed as the recurring views are of a “serious nature”.

He is, therefore, not eligible for the post of chairman during the coming term.
