Johann Marihart, chairman of the supervisory board of the Spanish Riding School, resigns from his position. This was announced to the APA in a broadcast Thursday morning. The resignation is in the interests of the company and to protect his personal interests, explained Marihart. Tourism Minister Elisabeth Köstinger (ÖVP) has already taken note of Marihart’s withdrawal. Ulrich Herzog was appointed as interim chairman of the supervisory board of the riding school.

Marihart leaves the Spanish Riding School.

The head of the section currently working at the Federal Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection has been a member of the supervisory board of the Riding School since 2010. Thus, a smooth continuation of the tasks of the supervisory board can be ensured, explained the Köstinger responsible for the riding school. She also showed respect for Marihart’s decision and thanked Herzog for taking over the office. This means that the supervisory board is still fully capable of acting, added Köstinger.

It was only on Tuesday that the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation into breach of trust against Marihart. He is said to have had a Lipizzaner stallion riding his daughter at the expense of the riding school. After becoming aware of the allegations directed against him, Marihart had rejected them.
