Coimbatore: In most of the village panchayats in Coimbatore district, it is not possible to apply online for building plan permission. Candidates are waiting since October last year till date, unable to get admission.

If you want to construct a building, you have to apply to the respective local bodies, pay the appropriate fee and get the map permission. Although the government says that permission will be given within 30 days, it is common for the applicants to wave away citing some administrative reason. There is a scenario where map permission can be obtained only by paying a bribe.

Internet way

In order to solve this problem, the program of applying online and issuing map permission was implemented in the Corporation, Municipalities and Boroughs. This scheme was introduced in Panchayats from October 2 last year.

In case of residences, within 10 thousand square feet, not more than 8 residences and not exceeding 12 meters in height. If the ground floor is for parking, stilts and, up to 3 floors may be permitted.

If the ground floor is residential, only ground floor and 2 floors should be permitted. It was advised that village panchayats can give permission only if the area of commercial buildings is within 2 thousand square feet.

Contract order

Application should be received online. The amount of fee to be paid and time of field inspection should be given online.

After October 2, Panchayats were told not to accept any payment in cash.

Unable to apply

In Coimbatore district, there are 228 panchayats under 12 unions. In the villages under these municipalities, many people own houses, shops and godowns, and build factories. They cannot apply online.

As the officers working in the panchayats do not have enough technical knowledge about giving map permission online, the applications of many people are kept in abeyance. Due to this, the revenue that should be available to the government through map permission has also been affected.

For three and a half months since October last year, the applicants have been in trouble for not getting the map permission. Unable to start the construction work, they are waiting.

We are going to provide training! In this regard, when I asked the Assistant Director of Panchayats, Bashir Ahmed, he said, “At the district level, 40 people who have applied online in the Panchayats have been given building plan permission. Few of the panchayat officers are aware of the procedures for giving permission online. They say that there is a small mistake. Therefore, we are going to give training to the heads and clerks of the panchayats on the 19th (today) regarding giving permission online. They are also going to give training from the City Development Department regarding the approval of plots,” he said.
