Chamber of Deputies publicizes reform for the use of train tracks for passenger service

The Chamber of Deputies gave publicity this Sunday, to the opinion that modifies the article 28 of the Constitution that allows the State to resume the use of train tracks to passenger transport.

The ruling establishes that, “the Mexican State regains the right to use railway tracks to provide passenger transportation service. To this end, the Federal Executive may grant assignments to public companies or concessions to individuals.”

It also establishes that “individuals who have concessions to provide the rail passenger transport service. In any case, preference will be given to the passenger rail transportation service, in terms of what is determined by the applicable legislation.”

This reform is part of the constitutional modification proposals sent by the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador last February.
