Champagne company donates 1743 trees to Berlin

Moët throws a celebrity party in the Bärensaal. Not without publicly toasting the near-natural conversion of the city forests. And so was the party.

Unfortunately, Sienna Miller had to cancel. For health reasons, it was said. Meanwhile, other international stars have come, such as Lucas Bravo, who became famous through the Netflix series “Emily in Paris”, “Bridgerton” leading actress Phoebe Dynevor and the British singer James Arthur. And German celebrities were there in droves anyway: Moritz Bleibtreu, Daniel Brühl, Emilia Schüle, Sabin Tambrea, plus a few “GNTM” girls and some influencer boys.

Since last year, the champagne manufacturer Moët & Chandon has been organizing its gala celebrations under the motto “Let’s Celebrate Togetherness”, which after two years of Corona and in the current politically tense situation almost sounds like a cheerful declaration of war: A welcome one Escapism intended to draw attention away from the quarrels of our time and towards peaceful get-togethers.

Moët has already organized such gala evenings more than twenty times worldwide, after stations in Sydney, Madrid or Lagos, for example, it was Berlin’s turn yesterday evening (8.11). Long, beautifully set dinner tables in the historic Bear Hall of the Old Town Hall, a three-course menu with lobster, veal and champagne, a live performance by James Arthur: behind the lavish party – you already guessed it – there was also a good cause lurking.

The thing with the trees, the Bärensaal and the Breitscheidplatz

In the course of its parties, the company supports various projects in the areas of sustainability and nature conservation. With regard to Berlin, this means: Exactly 1743 trees will be donated to the Bergwaldprojekt eV, which aims to convert the city forests in a way that is close to nature. Let’s hope that the trees will be planted in a better way than the Christmas trees at Breitscheidplatz.

In any case, Bergwaldprojekt eV was founded in Switzerland in 1987 on the initiative of Greenpeace activist Wolfgang Lohbeck and forester Renato Ruf Hin. In 1993 a German branch of the project was added. The association works with numerous volunteers in several European countries to preserve the ecosystems.

In addition to the 1743 trees – the number corresponds by the way the year the champagne company was founded, as Sylvie Meis cheekily moderated on Tuesday evening with a hostile attitude – donations are also passed on to the mountain forest project. Various project weeks are to be carried out with these in Alt-Tegel. Good thing that; the champagne glasses were of course clinking in the Bärensaal.

The company Moët calls this “Toast for a Cause” – a little stick for a good cause. After dinner there was a party. The actor Lars Eidinger once again tried his hand at DJing, which to be honest always has a bit of a Spotify playlist at the Friedrichshain flat share party. Eighties, nineties and today’s best – well. You can probably do it for a good cause.
