La Rochelle, although double title holder, still cannot take off in this 2023-2024 Champions Cup. In South Africa, Ronan O’Gara’s men were beaten at the last second by the Stormers (21-20). Yet ahead at half-time thanks to a try from Kerr-Barlow and two penalties from Antoine Hastoy, the Rochelais conceded two tries in the second period. The last one was transformed beyond 80 minutes by opener Manie Libbock.
A defeat that goes badly for the Maritimes, especially since they were in front throughout the match and a try from Antoine Hastoy was refused to them in the 76th minute of play. Fifth with two defeats in two matches, La Rochelle has two points in Group D before facing leader Leicester on January 14.
The UBB is enjoying itself
Already a clear winner against Connacht last week (5-41), Union Bordeaux-Bègles continued its momentum by winning against Bristol this Saturday afternoon (36-17). An improved victory allowed in the first moments of the match by Maxime Luccu, author of a penalty, a try and a transformation in six minutes.
