An unprecedented scenario since 2010. For the first time in 13 years, there will be no French players in the Champions League final. The long tradition ended this Wednesday evening, after the elimination of Real Madrid, swept away by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium (4-0), the day after the exit of AC Milan, beaten by its neighbor and rival of Inter, 1-0.

In these two teams, the French contingent was relatively large with Karim Benzema, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Ferland Mendy for the White House. On the side of AC Milan, the Blues were also well represented with Theo Hernandez, Olivier Giroud, Mike Maignan or even Pierre Kalulu. But it will therefore be zero points in the final, as at the end of the 2009-2010 season.

At the time, Inter Milan, which will participate in its sixth Champions League final, had offered its third C1 by dominating Bayern Munich (2-0) at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid. A final in which Franck Ribéry could not participate, suspended after being excluded from the semi-final first leg against Olympique Lyonnais.

The most chauvinistic can try to console themselves by falling back on two Citizens: Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte. But if they were both born in France, they have dual nationality and have decided to represent Algeria and Spain respectively at international level. It will therefore be without “Blue” that the next final will be played, on June 10 in Istanbul (Turkey).
