” We are back. » In the Newcastle sky this Monday, the message was clear above St James’ Park. The English club is back, in its stadium, in the Champions League, after 20 years of absence, this Wednesday (9 p.m.) against PSG. And for the occasion, 500 drones offered a breathtaking spectacle this Monday evening.

In a performance lasting almost eight minutes at night, the small remote-controlled luminous flying objects performed impressive stunts, starting with the flight of a magpie (magpie in English, as the players nicknamed it) above St James ‘Park. The drones also designed the famous black and white jersey, printed with the names of English defender Kieran Trippier, Brazilian international Bruno Guimarães and Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali.

“We wanted to create a little surprise for the fans to celebrate the return of European football’s biggest nights to St. James’ Park. The fans, the club and the players deserve special moments. I hope we participated in what will be an unforgettable evening for all those who love the club and this city,” explained Ibrahim Mohtaseb, deputy director of Sela, a Saudi company and Newcastle jersey sponsor, in charge of the event.

The 500 drones concluded their performance with the club logo and the slogan “We are back”. Planned twice, the show had to be canceled, the second time – due to English weather – because of “unfavorable weather conditions” according to the club.

This spectacular technology was used at the end of August in Riyadh, for the official presentation of Neymar by the Al-Hilal club. The drones had reproduced his card from the Ultimate Team mode of the FIFA video game, then his face, then the logo of his new club before concluding with: “Neymar is blue”.
