Chance of heavy rain in some parts of the country

The Department of Meteorology has forecast intermittent showers in the Upper, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Moderate to heavy rainfall of more than 50 mm is expected in the Upper and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in some places in the Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers during the afternoon or night in some parts of Uva and Eastern Provinces.

Occasionally there will be strong winds during thundershowers.

The public is advised to take necessary precautionary measures to minimize the possible damages caused by lightning strikes.

Rainy conditions:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places along the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Showers or thundershowers during the afternoon or night in many other parts of the country.

Wind:

In the coastal areas around the country, the wind is expected to blow from the southwest and the wind speed is expected to be 25-35 kmph.

Offshore winds from Puttalam to Kankesanthurai via Mannar and offshore from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to increase up to 40-50 kmph from time to time.

Sea level:

The coastal areas from Puttalam to Kankesanthurai via Mannar and the coastal areas from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to be rough from time to time.

Other seas around the country are expected to see moderate waves.
