Chandigarh University students protest – 3 people arrested, including the student who took the video

Chandigarh University is a privately owned university located in Mohali, Punjab. In the university campus yesterday after midnight, the students suddenly jumped into protest. The information spread that the videos of the university students being taken in obscenity were published on social media. Hearing that, they started protesting.

The police came to the information and held talks with the students. On a complaint lodged by the university, the police registered a case under the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.

The first investigation revealed that a student from the university had sent her obscene video to a boy from Shimla, the state capital of Himachal Pradesh, and the boy had posted it on a social networking site. The role of the teenager is being investigated. But Arvind Singh Kang, director of student welfare of the university, denied that, except for one student, the other students were not filmed obscenely.

Punjab State Women’s Commission President Manisha Gulati visited the university campus to take stock of the situation.

Also, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter.

In this case, the students protested in Chandigarh University campus last night. The police have arrested 3 people including the student who took the video in connection with this matter.
