“I would support a discussion on changes to the electoral law. There should be at least six months before an election to make changes. They should not be done piecemeal, but there should be a broad discussion to really improve the electoral process “There are indeed texts that need to be changed”, stated the chairperson of the CEC, Kamelia Neikova, in the program “The Day Has Started”.

She confirmed that DPS – New Beginning was registered yesterday in compliance with the decision of the Supreme Court.

“The CEC made similar decisions regarding the declared registrations of the two coalitions, namely refusal to register them, since the same party – DPS – appeared in the compositions of both. This is in accordance with the requirements of the electoral code”, explained Neykova.

The Chairperson of the CEC also explained that the electronic application submitted by DPS – New Beginning was reported at a meeting of the CEC, but no documents were attached to it. The application was signed by the two representatives of the coalition, but neither the coalition agreement nor the other documents were attached to it.

“I have no right to comment on the decision of the SAC. When we were making our refusal decision, the minutes indicated that an electronic application had been received, in which no documents were attached. There is no provision for submission of documents before the start time of registration. After all the court’s decision is final and we have complied with it,” she said.

Neikova also commented on her absence on the first day of registrations.

“I was in Azerbaijan as an international observer of their elections. This visit was organized in the month of July, when it was not clear when the elections would be at all. The rest of my colleagues were at work. In the end, we were absent for two days, not a whole week, as was circulated The CEC’s work was carried out as it would have been done if my colleague Rositsa Mateva had been here,” she said.

“The CEC does not have an independent building. We have asked the question more than once, there was some interim decision to move to the National Palace of Culture, but they refused from there. Access to the building of the National Assembly is such that anyone who has access to it, also has access to the CEC,” he said also the chairperson of the Commission.

“I think that the CEC is an independent state body, I can say for myself categorically that I am not a member of any political party. I am supported and proposed by the party “There is such a people”, but no one pressured me to take decisions in one direction or another,” said Neikova.

“The registration of the parties and coalitions is over. Now up to 35 days before the election day, changes can be made in the composition of the parties and coalitions. I hope that there will be no new battles so that the organization of the election process can proceed smoothly,” she explained.
