After hours of paralysis on Thursday, traffic resumed under the Channel. The agreement reached between Eurotunnel management and the unions “allows the gradual resumption of rail shuttle traffic from this (Thursday) evening” and Eurostar on Friday, the company announced yesterday evening.

On the Eurostar website, apart from a few delays on arrival, traffic between Paris and the English capital has in fact resumed this Friday morning, the same with Brussels. Six Paris – London connections between Friday and Sunday must be added to allow some of the travelers whose train has been canceled to reach the United Kingdom.

Eurostar had to cancel 30 trains on Thursday. The company said it would reimburse everyone whose train was canceled.

An agreement reached in the evening

The surprise strike launched at midday on Thursday caused major chaos: all Eurostar trains from London, Brussels and Paris Gare du Nord were canceled, as were the rail shuttles, in which travelers cross the Channel by car. The unions demanded a value sharing bonus of 3,000 euros, pointing to the company’s profits. Management offered them a bonus of 1,000 euros.

After an afternoon of negotiations, and the intervention of French Transport Minister Clément Beaune, an agreement was reached at the end of the day. According to several sources in Le Parisien, management would have agreed to pay the bonus of 3,000 euros. But the content of the agreement remains secret.

This allowed traffic to resume partially yesterday evening, and especially this morning. Eurotunnel “renews its apologies to all customers of the LeShuttle rail shuttle service, as well as to Eurostar passengers and rail freight operators whose traffic has been impacted by this movement. »
