Chaos Behind the Scenes: The Unseen Drama of the Oscar Ceremony

The Oscar ceremony that was held on the night between Sunday and Monday was relatively successful, it did not go beyond the times and passed without any special problems (apart from Al Pacino’s rant of course), but behind the scenes, as one could expect – not everything went smoothly.

If you stayed up at night to watch the ceremony live, you probably noticed that it started a few minutes late. As usual – Israel can be blamed for this as well, or at least the demonstrators in the party: supporters of Israel demonstrated outside the hall and pro-Palestinians in front of them, causing traffic jams and roadblocks.

This caused some important guests to enter the hall at the very last minute, among them Martin Scorsese, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling who took their seats only a few minutes after the ceremony was supposed to start – and for them its start was delayed by five minutes.

“We were tense,” said producer Molly McNearney. “We talk about these people in the opening monologue, and for it to pay off you have to see their reactions. We waited for a few people to sit down, it was a bit of a problem to get them in quickly, but in the end it worked out.”

Although Gosling did not win an Oscar for his role in “Barbie”, he was one of the stars of the evening thanks to his exciting performance with the song I’m Just Ken. Behind the scenes he was watched by his partner, the actress Eva Mendez, who usually does not attend events with him but this time deviated from the norm. At the same time, as usual – she preferred to keep a low profile, didn’t walk the red carpet and didn’t take a picture, but later sent him a clear message on Instagram: “You brought Ken all the way to the Oscars, now come home, we need to put the kids to bed.”

Another talked about moment was starring the wrestler and actor John Cena, who appeared on stage almost completely naked with only an envelope hiding his private area, and if you were wondering how naked he really was – then the answer is about 99 percent, because a piece of cloth hid what which was needed, front and back.

With all due respect to the human stars, the one who stole the show was Messi the dog from the movie “Anatomy of a Fall”, who was seen sitting in the audience and clapping – which became the biggest viral segment of the evening. You may be disappointed to learn that this sweet moment was not live, but pre-recorded before the ceremony even began. The reason for this is that the furry star, as befits an actor of his status, caused trouble in rehearsals: “He barked a lot during rehearsal. It wasn’t his fault, I think he was confused by the signs the cameraman made, he thought he was signaling him to bark,” said McNairy. In the end, the producers decided not to risk it and filmed the segment in advance.

Another amusing moment occurred when the evening’s host Jimmy Kimmel read a mocking post of former US President Donald Trump, who at the beginning of the ceremony wrote, among other things: “Has there ever been a worse host than Jimmy Kimmel at the Oscars?” Kimmel responded in his typical and sarcastic way His: “Blah, blah, blah. Well, thank you, President Trump. Thanks for watching. I’m surprised you’re still watching, isn’t it after your prison hours?”.

Afterwards, Kimmel said that there were people who tried to convince him to give up reading the tweet: “They told me I had some time left and I told them, ‘I’m reading Trump’s tweet.’ They said, ‘No, no, don’t read it.’ I told them, ‘I Reading!'”.

Producer Molly McNearney admitted that she was the one who tried to prevent it: “I’m not proud of it but I was the one who tried to convince him to give it up. He asked me why and I answered that I didn’t want to give Trump air time at the Oscars. Usually my instincts are right but this time I was wrong. Jimmy said he would be fine and he really was, these are the moments when he flourishes.”

But with all due respect to the Oscars, the real fun only starts after it’s over – at least for the party-loving stars.

With the end of the formal ceremony, the celebs can break free and go out to drink and eat at the many parties that take place in the city – and there are quite a few of them, starting from those held every year by senior artists such as Beyoncé and Jay-Z or Madonna to the streaming networks and movie studios.

As you might expect from the socially conscious star, Madonna’s party, held at the home of her Israeli manager Guy Ozari, was also a fundraising event for her charity for Malawi. The guests received scarves from the association as a gift, and the menu included chicken tikka masala and naan bread – which, according to reports, did not really appeal to those present who did not touch the food and probably preferred to remain hungry.

The competing party, of Beyoncé and Jay Z, was more boisterous, lasted until dawn and was attended by even Leonardo DiCaprio, who did not bother to be at the ceremony himself even though his film “The Moon Flower Killers” was nominated for ten awards. The film ended without any statuettes, so perhaps DiCaprio anticipated the defeat and preferred to focus on the festivities that followed. From the Kevin B party, he did move on to a few other parties.

Although there are celebs who choose one party and focus on it, but like DiCaprio, most of them jump from one to the next and it is likely that they will see a presence at the most prestigious event in town: the magazine party and “Niti Fair”, which, since it first took place in 1994, is considered the highlight of the after parties.

Those who came to this party met, among others, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Barry Keogan, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski, Salma Hayek, Vanessa Hudgens, Charles Melton, Sidney Sweeney, Margot Robbie, Billie Eilish, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Steven Spielberg, Olivia Wilde, Megan Fahy, Eva Longoria, Serena Williams, and many others.

Among the attractions in the hall – which was all about the purity of the red-brothel color, were photo booths, and Shonda Rhimes, the creator of “Grey’s Anatomy”, was heard saying: “I’m going to do the picture of the outstanding blacks”, before entering the booth with the actors Tracee Ellis Ross and Perry Wright, the musician Babyface and the director Ava Dubarney.

The “New York Times” magazine told from the inside that old friends Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan talked and reminisced, Margot Robbie joined the conversation of Sharon Stone and Nicolas Cage, Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner talked warmly with Lauren Sanchez and the actress Cynthia Arribo said: “I’m going Home to change into something more comfortable and then I’ll go to Jay-Z’s party.” Singer Billie Eilish, who won her second Oscar at the ceremony, said she would put it on the shelf right next to the first statuette she won. I wonder if at this stage of the evening she has already read Noa Tashvi’s angry words directed at her, among other things.

Gift bags were also distributed at the party, which included slippers and dressing gowns, for those who felt too suffocated in the tailored clothes, and the dining tables were loaded with good junk food such as hamburgers and pizzas, but even in this case the table remained almost full, and one of the guests simply explained that all the guests were on Ozmpic. The cocktails, on the other hand, were poured like wine.
