In Sudan, the chaos following clashes between militias seeking to seize power in the East African country is making it very difficult for foreigners seeking to escape to escape, NOS says. A Dutch company managed to evacuate a group of 22 foreigners on small boats that from Port Sudan, a port city in the east of the country, would lead to a larger ship in international waters.

Convoys for the evacuation of foreigners are also set up from the besieged capital Khartoum, but the Dutch foreign ministry warns against the risks of participating in a program that has not been organized by the government.

Several countries have been busy for days organizing official evacuation flights and the Netherlands has sent a unit of marines to Jordan for this purpose. A Rapid Consular Support Team (SCOT) from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs traveled to neighboring Djibouti. But in addition to the official ways, other organizations tried alternative ways, with small groups trying their luck amidst checkpoints, street clashes and chaos caused by the attempt of many to leave the capital Khartoum.

The Dutch embassy in Sudan is in contact with more than 130 Dutch people, but according to them there are many more in the country.
