by time news

Dhe Managing Minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer (CSU) is putting pressure on the management of BER Airport after tourist traffic revealed numerous problems at the new airport during the autumn holidays. According to information from WELT AM SONNTAG from ministry circles, Scheuer is demanding a written report on the breakdowns from the new BER boss Aletta von Massenbach and has set the management a deadline of November 5th.

The holidaymakers in the Berlin autumn holidays caused chaotic conditions at BER, for example extremely long waiting times due to a lack of staff during handling.

But there are numerous other problems with the airport, which opened a year ago. Reports include overflowing garbage cans, broken floor tiles, frequently dirty toilets and defective escalators and elevators. There is also a dispute over the number of taxis that are allowed to drive to the airport from Berlin and Brandenburg.

Management should now comment on all of these issues and make suggestions for solutions by the end of next week. A conversation between Scheuer and the BER boss is also planned afterwards. The federal government is co-owner of the airport along with the states of Berlin and Brandenburg. While the two federal states each own 37 percent of the shares in the company, the federal government holds 26 percent.
