The American artist Chappell Roan is coming to Norway for the first time in the summer of 2025.
She will be closing the first day of the Øyafestivalen, they write in a press release.
– She is among the artists that most Øya attendees have wished for at next year’s festival. This will be her only concert in Norway in 2025, they continue.
Roan has quickly become one of the world’s biggest artists.
She really broke through this year with songs like “Hot to go” and “Good luck, babe.” Both songs are nearing 1 billion streams on the streaming service Spotify.
The festival takes place in Tøyenparken in Oslo from August 6 to 9, 2025.
These are confirmed for Øya 2025
Won award for best new artist
Roan is also nominated for a total of six Grammy awards. In recent years, she has toured with artist Olivia Rodrigo.
Recently, she won the award for best new artist at the MTV Video Music Awards. Among the other nominees were Benson Boone and Gracie Abrams.
The artist’s real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, but she is undoubtedly best known by her stage name.
Her music is inspired by synthpop from the 1980s and early 2000s pop music.
Grows slowly
Already in her teenage years, she was signed to the record label Atlantic, but they dropped Roan before she could release any albums.
Only in 2023 did her debut album ”The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” come out.
In the meantime, she had created a completely different stage persona. From being a quiet singer-songwriter, she became more outrageous.
To The Guardian, she explained how she changed:
– I grew up thinking that homosexuality was a sin. I went to a gay club once and it was like magic. It was the opposite of everything I had learned, Roan told the newspaper last year.
It was this visit to a gay club that inspired the artist to write one of the songs she is now most known for: Pink Pony Club.
