Charge d’Affaires of Ukraine to the Russian Federation Vasily Pokotilo has been summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. This was announced on Friday, December 24, at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The diplomat “received a decisive protest” and set out the requirements for the Ukrainian side to fulfill “international obligations to ensure security and create appropriate conditions for the normal functioning of Russian diplomatic and consular missions,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The call is connected with the actions of an unknown person who, according to the Russian side, on December 24 at 02.30 local time (03.30 Moscow time), threw in the direction of the entrance to the territory of the Russian Consulate General in Lvov “a Molotov cocktail that ignited.”

A note was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine

The Consulate General of the Russian Federation sent a note to the regional office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and an appeal addressed to the head of the main department of the National Police in Lviv. A similar note was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Earlier on Friday, the Lviv region police communications department reported that an unidentified person threw a bottle of flammable liquid into the fence of the Russian Consulate General in Lviv at about 3 am.
Police investigators opened criminal proceedings under Article 296 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. A pre-trial investigation is underway, the circumstances of the incident and the identity of the attacker are being established, the police inform.
