A year and a half ago, there was a clash between students and businessmen in Newmarket area of the capital. Based on this, rumors were spread on Facebook about Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas.
In this case, Shahbagh police station, in the digital security law case, co-editor of Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra League. DMP’s City Cyber Crime Investigation Department filed a charge sheet against three people including Rakibur Rahman Fahim.
Inspector SM Shah Jalal, the investigating officer of the case, filed the charge sheet in the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sultan Sohag Uddin on Thursday. The court signed the charge sheet as ‘Seen’ and ordered transfer to the Cyber Tribunal for trial.

The other accused in the charge sheet are Md. Tajuddin Ahmed Russell and Md. Tariq Rahman. Among them, Tarek is absconding and two others are on bail.
It is said in the charge sheet that the offense under section 25/29/31 of the Digital Security Act 2018 has been prima facie proved against the accused for trying to deteriorate law and order by spreading false and baseless statements during the clash between Dhaka College and Newmarket shop workers.
The accused tried to incite the deterioration of law and order among the students of Newmarket and Dhaka Colleges by defaming Mayor Fazle Noor Tapas by publishing false and baseless information by posting and live on Facebook, which is prima facie proved as an offense under Section 25/29/31/35 of the Digital Security Act 2018. .

On April 28, 2022, a case was registered against anonymous Facebook users under the Digital Security Act at the Shahbag police station. Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas personal assistant Monirul Islam filed this case as plaintiff. Two names and three pages are mentioned in the case. Then on January 2, the police arrested Chhatra League leader Fahim.
After the remand, on January 6, he admitted responsibility and gave a statement in court. Later, when Russell was arrested and sent to court on June 18, he also admitted responsibility and gave a statement.
It is said in the complaint, Md. A video published by Bangladesh Times was shared from a Facebook ID named Rakibur Rahman Fahim. He shared the video published on a page named INewsBD from the Facebook ID of Tajuddin Ahmed Russell.
Besides, the video is broadcast from a page named Ilyas Hossain Media. In the videos published on these Facebook pages and IDs, false, baseless, defamatory and ugly information is posted.
