Charleroi will be one of the teams to watch next season in the Jupiler Pro League. In recent years, the Carolos have often been in the sub-top but had to fight to keep their position until the end of last season. Today, a new wind is blowing through Mambourg.
The revival had already begun at the start of the play-offs last season when Rik De Mil was appointed as the new coach. This summer, the core of the players also underwent a deep overhaul. Many players have not had their contracts extended and Charleroi are in the process of recruiting replacements.
Charleroi records good results
So far, the results of the preparation are quite good. Charleroi, for example, Genk had already drawn 3-3 and even recorded two victories on Saturday. The Zebras won the first time against Beerschot 3-0 then against Zulte Waregem 2-0.
De Mil can be happy about that. “The general feeling is good. Everyone played and we have no injuries. For me, the most important thing is the way of playing football. I have seen good things,” said coach L at La Derniere Heure.
Mil still sees areas to work on
But the coach believes that there are still good points to work on for the new season. “We still have to find out how to keep the pressure for 90 minutes. We are still conceding too many chances. If we do that against a better team, we will concede many goals against,” he fears.
De Mil still has two weeks to improve his team. Indeed, Charleroi have had a very difficult start to the season. On the first day, he will meet Antwerp, then Ghent and the Union on the third and fourth day.
