One was in Paris then in Bordeaux; the other in Marseille. One was in a suit; the other in a cassock. And, in both cases, the same scenes: admiring and above all respectful French people. We did not recognize them, these French people who are said to be rebellious, scolding and angry. In any case, not there. Not in front of these two authorities. The first is English, the other Argentinian. One is king, the other pope. In this liquid world, we couldn’t be more solid. We saw all the weight of the world on their shoulders.

The most remarkable – and respected – thing is that the two create unity. The king’s subjects, like Catholic believers – certainly, despite differences – are one before the throne or under the cross. France has no nostalgia for the alliance of one and the other, but does not…
