Charli XCX’s seventh studio album, Music, Fashion, Film, dropped on July 24, 2026, marking a return to the studio after a whirlwind two years that included acting roles, a film soundtrack, and a marriage. The 11-track project, released under the label STORY, features 30 minutes and 5 seconds of music, the shortest full-length album of her career. It includes the previously released singles “Rock Music” and “SS26,” as well as a guest appearance from filmmaker David Cronenberg on the closing track, No One Lasts Forever.

The Album’s Structure and Guest Feature

The Cronenberg collaboration, No One Lasts Forever, is the longest track at nearly six minutes. The tracklist, shared by the singer, includes “Rock Music,” “SS26,” “Card Declined,” “Camera,” “2007,” “I’m Afraid,” “Yeah,” “Wink Wink,” “Persona,” Magic Metal Montana, and the Cronenberg-assisted No One Lasts Forever.

Charli XCX emphasized that Music, Fashion, Film is not a traditional rock album, despite speculation. In a Rolling Stone interview, she stated, I’ve never thought about genre in a binary way. I find that to be a very old-school notion. I don’t even know what the genre is. It’s just me and A. G. Cook and Finn Keane, doing our thing. The album’s runtime of 30 minutes and 5 seconds, spread across 11 tracks, reflects a deliberate focus on brevity and precision, a contrast to the extended runtimes common in modern streaming culture.

Charli XCX’s Creative Vision

Charli XCX described the album as a self-referential and introspective project, born from a period of creative urgency. Out of the blue, inspiration struck me, she said in a BBC interview. I suddenly felt like I had something to say, so I ran with it. The album’s title, Music, Fashion, Film, is drawn from lyrics in “SS26,” where she sings, Nothing’s gonna save us, not music, fashion or film.

The album’s cover art, shot by Aidan Zamiri, features filmmaker Martin Scorsese, designer Marc Jacobs, and musician John Cale of the Velvet Underground. Each represents one of the album’s titular disciplines, reflecting Charli XCX’s aspiration to engage with the highest levels of cultural authority in those fields. The image was shared on Instagram, with Charli XCX captioning the post: “My new album Music, Fashion, Film is out July 24th. 11 songs, 30 minutes, 5 seconds. available to pre order now, love you xx.”

Release Strategy and Tour Plans

Charli XCX announced a global listening tour, with 25 events held at indie movie theaters from July 9 to July 11, 2026. The singer also revealed a 12-date North American arena tour, beginning September 11 in Philadelphia, to support the album. Billboard reported that the tour will include two nights at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and Los Angeles’ Kia Forum.

The album’s release coincides with her continued crossover into film, with upcoming roles in Faces of Death and I Want Your Sex, which opens July 31, 2026.

Context Within Her Career

Music, Fashion, Film is the follow-up to Brat, which peaked at Number Three on the Billboard 200 and marked a career high for the British artist. The album’s title track, “Brat,” became a cultural phenomenon, with Collins English Dictionary updating its definition to reflect the confident, independent, and hedonistic attitude associated with the album. Charli XCX described the new project as a departure from the dance-oriented sound of Brat, stating, If I'd made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad.

The artist also emphasized the importance of avoiding stagnation, saying, To be boring is to die right there on the spot. This sentiment is reflected in the album’s eclectic mix of guitar-driven tracks and experimental sounds. The project’s release date, July 24, 2026, places it in a competitive landscape, as it coincides with the release of Ariana Grande’s eighth album, Petal, on July 31.

Charli XCX’s Music, Fashion, Film represents a bold step in her evolution as an artist, blending her signature style with new influences and collaborations. The album’s focus on brevity, thematic depth, and cultural references positions it as a significant moment in her career, following the immense success of Brat and her growing presence in film. With a global tour and a diverse tracklist, the project underscores her commitment to pushing creative boundaries while maintaining her signature energy and innovation.
