For his first official competition with his Imoca Macif, Charlie Dalin won the Rolex Fastnet Race.
A month after her launch, the Imoca Macif skippered by Charlie Dalin and Pascal Bidégorry in particular, won the Rolex Fastnet race in the Imoca category on Monday evening. Charlie Dalin did not hide his satisfaction on arrival at the Cherbourg pontoon: “Achieving a double in the Rolex Fastnet Race was not part of the program. We had sailed five times before departure, the boat is really new from new. We had never sailed at 35 knots, let alone upwind! I rather left to do DIY and gradually, with Pascal, we changed mode because the boat behaved well! In the end, we didn’t take the tool box out for the whole race and everything worked very well.»
Pascal Bidégorry, co-skipper of Charlie Dalin added: “It was a very committed, intense race, with an incredible level where no one gave up! She is very positive and we had never sailed at such speeds with the boat. The teams did an incredible job because to be able to win in the first race is fabulous. »
four minutes apart
The duo came in very close, just four minutes ahead of another duo they know well, made up of Yoann Richomme and Yann Eliès, sailing on the boat Paprec Arkéa recently released from the yard, with Sam Goodchild’s Imoca For the planet completing the podium.
