Charlotte player dies in boating accident

England player Anton Walkes, who played for Charlotte FC, died at the age of 25 in Miami, his club playing in MLS, the North American football championship, announced on Thursday, local media reporting that it occurred after an accident of ship. The Charlotte team is doing a pre-season training camp in Florida and according to the Local 10 news television channel, Walkes was found unconscious after the accident which occurred on Wednesday. He was revived by Miami firefighters before being taken to hospital, but later died.

He was a wonderful son, father, partner and teammate whose joyful approach to life touched everyone he met.said club owner David Tepper. “Anton made those around him better people in every way and represented Charlotte FC at the highest level, on and off the pitch. He will be sadly missed by many and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this heartbreaking time.“, he added.

Defender, Walkes came from the training center of Tottenham. He joined Portsmouth in 2018, after a first spell in MLS, in Atlanta, on loan. He returned to the Georgia State club in 2020 where he played one season, before being transferred last season to Charlotte.
